Beef Day

One of the organizations on campus was having a beef event and they brought a cow to Lowry Mall. So naturally DK and I had to go check it out. Here's some photos and there might be a video to come. These were taken with an Olympus E-PL1.

And then of course DK had to buy Laura a shirt.

My Sister's Circus

Calin, David and I finally ventured into My Sister's Circus on Wednesday to see what kind of place it really was. It turned out to be pretty harmless, except for this clown.

The Becky Look

Laura's giving me the "Becky Look." That was the face Laura got from her sister when she would annoy her.

5 Points of View: Edit 1

So here's edit number 1 for my 5 points of view project. Consider the amount of time I had with Sam I think I captured a decent variety of his daily life. One thing I really like is that he had the same hat on every time I saw him, which at first was a challenge, but I think it added a nice continuity to all the frames in the end. I thought I would wait to add captions until I have the edit nailed down.

Project Proposal

I am doing my 5 perspectives on freshman photo-j student Sam Gause. This feels a little like déjà vu because in my fundamentals class I did a story on Dann Wunderlich who was a freshman, living in McDavid that chose photojournalism after injuring himself playing football. Sam is a freshman living in McDavid that chose photojournalism after injuring himself playing baseball. He's from Phoenix, AZ and says he's always been an artistic kid. He started taking photo classes in high school, which peaked his interest. He met his two best friends this school year from his dorm. He's working for the Maneater, among his classes he's taking Spanish, which he says is the most challenging class for him. I'm going to show the different aspects of his day. Interviewing people for stories, hanging out with his friends, going running, working on homework and then I was going to shoot him in his fundamentals class Wednesday morning.

Catching up

I know I haven't posted in awhile so here is my catch up post. This first picture is from the Missouri Grand Prix we hosted last weekend.

Houston we have a problem...Calin sorts out POYi issues.

When I'm at POYi I like to get on the webcast because I like to see what people are saying about the pictures. DK made fun of me.

I attempted to do a project about Valentine's day, but my dislike for the holiday got the better of me. I title this "The Aftermath"

I was on my way to work and realized I didn't have a picture for the day so I shot this while getting into my car. Plus this was the first day in forever that we didn't have overcast skies. The birds were happy.

I ran into my friend Corey on my way to class and took a quick portrait of him.

Walking to class

Colleen on a snowy day. I know I said I don't do a lot of black and white, but I think I'm liking it better with snow pictures.

Sledding!

So I decided to investigate the sledding situation at Stephen's Park. Here are two of the shots I got:

This little boy was laying at the bottom of the hill for ten minutes like this and I finally went down and asked if he was ok. He said he was too tired to carry his sled up the hill so I carried it for him and then his mom got mad that he was making me carry it. He was cute :)

Nature Hike

I went on a hike in the snow with my cold, which was probably a bad idea, and I got this:

Snowy Day in Columbia

So this is my Hitt Street Garage shot. It was an overcast day, but still pretty with the snow. I usually don't do black and white but I liked the nostalgic feeling I get from this.

Haiti relief

I have a caption for this, but I'm not sure where it is at the current moment. This was the UN student fundraiser for Haiti relief. The volunteer was giving out mint chocolates to students when they donated money or wrote a message for people effected by the earthquake. It was a cold day in CoMo and they were out there for at least 8 hours, which was really impressive.

Thursday night games!

This is a photo from Pictionary night at my neighbor's house. I took pictures of everyone, but they're not letting me put them up. I'll talk them out of that.

And so it begins...

Everyday for the next thirty days I, along with my picture story class, will take a photo and post it on my blog. This shouldn't be a challenge since I'm a photographer, but this semester I have been slacking on finding time to shoot everyday and running out of ideas of things to shoot in Columbia, MO. Hopefully this will bring me out of my slump. Today is day one and I was wondering what I could shoot in an hour before work. When I walked in my room I saw all of the empty medicine packages and bottles of cough syrup that got me through my "cold gone wild" this past weekend and thought about how much I spend on these items every time I get sick. It has to be at least $40-$50 once you add in prescriptions. So, I gathered my medicines and tissues and cough drops and this is what I came up with. Crazy....I know.

This photo sequence of Henry Kissinger at the UN was shot by Hugo Estenssoro and won the 1974 World Press Photo sequence category.
